training working dogs in the backcountry

BackcountryK9s specializes in training working dogs for rural families.

Backcountry Life

The role of dogs, in everyday rural life, is complex. A balance between family life and work. Protecting and alerting to changes in the environment, as well as being playful and attentive companions to children and other members of the family/pack.

Family/Pack Overlap

Being a strong leader means being a competent and thoughtful provider. Providing safety and direction, as well as access to needs and wants.

Team mates and Protectors

The mutually beneficial relationship that we have with dogs is unrivalled. Together we find the missing, assist those with disabilities, we transport goods and detect odours in our environments.

Our Eyes and Ears in the backcountry… and Nose. Definitely the nose.

Dogs extend our senses and allow us to interpret our environment on a much deeper level.
